Card games, board games, kids games – all games!

We recently watched Casino Royale and Cameron has become fascinated with Poker and how you play (or more importantly how you win).

He keeps asking me “why does the dealer have cards” and “what can I do to win” – I generally look at him blankly and send him to David but if he isn’t around I need to formulate some sort of answer. I managed to find out some interesting little facts about cards though – did you know that cards were invented by the Chinese – it appears they do make everything! Interesting what you find out isn’t it.

Cameron can’t wait until he is 18 so he can go to a casino and play for real. He has already planned his 18th party – it is going to be at Monte Casino. He has 8 years to realise that to make money gambling you need to HAVE money to start with.

Kiara doesn’t care much for gambling or card games, apart from UNO. We have this game I bought for her when sh

e was much younger called Post the Most – it is a sweet game but is tedious and rather boring but she loves it. David and I suggest all the other games before we relent and play this one with her.

What games do your kids enjoy playing?

Do you enjoy the casino? (I really don’t)

Have you watched the 007 movies? Who is your favourite? Mine has to be Sean Connery!!!!

  1. I am okay about Casinos but you have to go there with an amount that you are prepared to loose. My B HATES casino so we never go.

I loved Roger Moore as 0007

  2. I’ve been taking a keen interest in board games recently, and have started a nice little collection of them. We tend to select “party games” for around 4 people generally, and have a few tame ones (Uno), to the geekier (Dominion), and even completely ridiculous and shocking adult games (Cards Against Humanity).

Check out the fortnightly web series, TableTop, for some gameplay videos for the more popular games.

I haven’t watched the one for Wits & Wagers, but it’s billed as a more “family-friendly” one:

Also, Munchkin looks fantastic for family play:

Some local sites that stock the games:

    Enjoy 🙂

  3. I still love some trivial pursuit 🙂

Daniel Craig is my favourite Bond todate – those eyes! Man alive… they take my breath away and I thought he was EXCELLENT in Skyfall.

  4. I don’t gamble (have never gambled in my life!) but I enjoy going to Grand West. They have really nice things for kids and we enjoy going to the movies and concerts that they offer. Am not actually a games person. Except for 30seconds and Chess. Maybe Trivial Pursuit. Sean Connery is the ONLY Bond as far as I’m concerned. And Pierce Brosnan. Can’t get used to Daniel Craig – a blonde Bond. Believe me, I have tried.

  5. I’m so glad we found each other! Thanks for checking out my blog and I’m thrilled I found yours as well. My kids are completely obsessed with two games: 1) The Scramble States of America. It’s educational but not lame, I swear! My oldest is 9 and has pretty much exhausted the fun out of it, but my 6.5 year old loves it. It lead them to the Stack the States app on their iTouches and they love that when I can’t play this game with them. 2)My oldest loves the Monopoly card game. It’s pretty much like the boardgame but made with a deck of Monopoly cards. It’s pretty cool. Oh! He also like Flux. Personally, that game has way too much thinking involved, but I can’t admit that because I’d be an idiot if my 9 year old is smarter than me. Well, let me rephrse that, he IS smarter than me but I’d be an idiot to let him know that;)
So glad we are virtual bloggy friends now!

  6. I am not fond of board games….I call them bored games… I also don’t like casinos or gambling…I am pretty sure there are easier ways to throw money away. We also have seen a number of people of the years at the Mission that were addicted to gambling…I stay away from anything addictive.

Kobus and I watched Skyfall last weekend, and I believe that the Bond that aged the best is Sean Connery…Roger Moore got all saggy and Sean Connery still looks hot at his age;-)

  7. Casinos – big NO!!! Even the advertisements freak me out. ( National responsible gambling bla bla bla) I refuse to learn how to play any of the “gambling” type games. I have just heard of too many stories of people becoming addicted and families being torn apart because of it, that I cannot bring myself to like it or the games try as hard as I may. Though I do like the glitz and lights and would normally walk through anytime I am at Monte or Emperor’s.

Board games – I like though very specific ones, Scrabble, Monopoly, 30 seconds etc. I like monopoly because it kind of shows you whether someone is a hoarder, a risk taker or risk averse to an extent.

Sean does it for me any day and Pierce is a close second
