Memories

This post is inspired by Odette of at Ms Firefly . She asked me in her comment to yesterdays post what my happiest memory is!

So I decided to dedicate a whole post to some of the my happiest, saddiest, earliest memories!

So what is my happiest memory? It is not one single memory but rather a collection. Has to definately be the 6 months I spent working at the Kruger National Park! I had never been to the bush before and was a little nervous but instantly fell in love with it. A tourism student and I were given a 3-bedroomed fully furnished house at the Pretoriuskop camp and the 6 months that followed were a blur of too much Tassies, more wors than we care to remember, watching sunsets from koppies the public arent allowed to go in, game drives, parties and just all round FUN! It was such a care-free time. We had very little responsibility – everything was paid for. All we had to do was pitch for work and we were all there because we wanted to be so it never felt like a chore. We had 2-3 hour luch breaks – it just gets too hot to be working. I have only good memories of those 6 months – even the night I fell through a glass table and cut my arm open and needed stitches but in our drunken state we somehow managed to stop the bleeding with a band-aid! I still have the 10cm scar to proof it – was funscan0003

My saddest memory would have to be when my gran died – I was 11. She was sick and was in our home until the night before she died. It was horrible watching her like that. We would stand at the door to listen if she was still breathing. Her and I were very close and even now I miss her and am sad she didnt get to see my kids and to see my brother happy and married!scan0002

My earliest memory is when I was in hospital as a baby. I was spent a few months in hospital around my first birthday and I remember the childrens ward clearly. I dont remember what happened or any people but I remember the lay out of the room, the windows, the curtains. I can see it all clearly! scan0001I was diagnosed with dislocated hips at nine months and was operated on shortly after that – in case you were wondering why I was in hospital – you can sort of see the plaster cast in the photo!

Memories I would like to forget – purely for their cringe value!! My first kiss with tongue – it was horrid! Making out with a boy in some dodgy club on Durbans beach front in the private lounge we werent supposed to be in and being kicked out for inappropriate behaviour – club clearly did have standards. The night I threw up all over my friends step dads shoes at her moms 40th birthday. Going for a drive through the Timbavati with a colleague – drinking too many Breezers and then needing to pee – only option – stop and pee! Our fear was divided between the roaming lions and ellies and the trucks full of tourists!

Sure there are lots more but those are the ones that stick out for me now!

What are your memories? Happy, sad, funny?
