What is Love
The fabulous ExMi asked this in one of her posts and then answered it.
It got me thinking about what love is. I had a friend’s bridal shower a few weeks ago and we were all asked to send through a saying on love/relationships which I found most amusing, considering my track record.
But anyway I sent through this definition of love
“Love is in the hand that reaches out for yours, the eyes that see you and the voice that calms you. It is the music your hearts make when joined!”
That is what love is to me.
That is not to say that I have ever had that kind of love though. It is just to me what it should be.
It is such a hard thing to define though because it is different for each person. No two people experience love the same way. It means different things to different people.
While I can’t define love I do know I have felt it
I do know it is the most intense, frightening feeling.
I do know that it is not one thing. It is many small things. It really is in the eyes that see you and the voice that calms you.
I also do know that it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved.

to me love is also that reassuring pair of eyes in a crowded room. Or that unexpected unseen familiar hand that touches your lower back in a room full of strangers.

For me, love is the pair of eyes that see me very clearly and does not flinch from my dark corners.
Love is having someone who listens patiently while I rant and rave about my latest upset and calmly reminds me that things will turn out fine anyway.

Wow Laura, you’ve described it soo perfectly. I believe we all find LOVE at some point in our loves. For some of us it takes a long time, but it is soo worth it when you do find it!!!!! You’ll never want to live without it again!!!!

I like your version of love. I don’t think anyone can say definitively what it is. For me, there’s a difference between romantic love, and “love”. The latter, for me, is the energy that flows between everything in the universe. We each can choose to give as much as we please, because our hearts are limitless sources.

I can be so angry at DH that I could kill him, but when ours eyes meet (even in anger) my knees get all wobbly and weak …

Love is such a hard thing to define, isn’t it? It’s so personal to each and every one of us….

Yikes, I try not to think that deeply – my head may explode.
Knowing me and still hanging about (without chains and threats) means LARGE QUANTITIES of love are abiding in his heart.

I like your definition…

I like Tessa’s comment. I think love is all about comfort. After the passion has died down and the infatuation, it’s just knowing that person will be there at all times. I don’t think real lasting love is about intensity at all.
