I love mountains
“I love mountains. There’s always a mountain to be climbed somewhere. I chose a hard one, didn’t I?
Every moment of living was packed full of details, the important details at the time. Now, looking back from the top of the mountain they all merge together. All those moments of hurting and being scared and slithering backwards that seemed to go on forever, are lost in the big moments….” Saul from Between Two Eternities by Rosemary Kay
I have read this book before but it is such a beautiful story that I when I was browsing our book case for a new book to read I decided to read it again.
The story is told in the voice of Saul. He is a baby born very prem at 23 weeks. He tells of how he experiences this “Living” thing. He tells of the pain, the confusion, the determination and the triumphs. It is beautifully written story by Sauls mother, Rosemary Kay.
It is not a book you should read though if you are pregnant, trying to fall pregnant or have just had a baby. The emotions in the book are raw and at times almost overwhelming.
I loved this quote though because I think it is so true.
I remember a few years ago when I was “hurting and being scared and slithering backwards”, it seemed to go on forever. There were days I thought that this is how life would be always. I would always hurt and be scared and never actually move forward to a better place.
Now, even though, I remember those moments, it is the bigger moments that I remember more often and with more clarity. It is the triumphs, the laughter, the love that I remember every day. Those are the big moments that swallow up the hard ones.
Throughout the book little Saul climbs mountains. Some he manages to reach a lot faster than others, some are hard and he has to remind himself to “suckpush suckpush”**. That is how life is. Every morning we wake up we are either standing at the top of a mountain, at the bottom, somewhere on a slope in middle and we either relish in our victory or we have to remind ourselves to breath.
Where ever you may be on your mountain today, remember little Saul managed to climb mountains by simply remembering to “suckpush”. So stop and breath, look around, there is beauty, where ever you are, there is beauty there. Look for it and then move forward.
** This is how Saul refers to breathing
