Buses, high heels and broken glasses
It was wedding two yesterday afternoon. It was held at Kieviets Kroon – well half of it was anyway.
During discussions at night outs with the couple we knew we where going to be taken in buses from Kieviets Kroon to the place where the ceremony would be held but what we didnt know was it would be a 45 minute bus ride into the middle of nowhere to a game farm.
What we didn’t know was that 15 minutes of the bus ride would be on a dust road through ditches and puddles. What we didn’t know was we would be risking our lives over a little hang bridge to get to the place where the ceremony would be held!
But once we had reached the other side of the river, walked through the little path and found the oasis in the middle of nowhere it was pretty clear why she had chosen that spot. It really was very pretty.
She is Jewish so they did have a few of the Jewish traditions like walking around each other 7 times (I think it was each other – we couldn’t really see) and then breaking the glass at the end.
The guy who conducted the ceremony was awesome. He did quote a little from the Bible but his focus was more on love and the uniting of the couple. It was, I think, the most beautiful ceremony I have attended. I may or may not have had a tear in my eye!
After the ceremony we all walked over to an open tent where there were tables laden with just about every type of cheese, bread, jam known to man. There was black cherries, red cherries, springbok carpaccio, dry wors, nuts, bread sticks – really it was like a medieval feast. Not really a place for me and my lactose and gluten intolerances. But the spread was enormously impressive.
We also got to taste the first sparkling wine made by Diemersfontein – I cant now remember the name but it was very nice
After many many MANY speeches we risked life and limb again to get back to the bus and back to Kievietskroon. Must say the bus trip was a little more fun than going there – we ended up collectively doing a 10 minute crossword (took us collectively about 25 minutes to get half way).
The rest of the evening was lovely. There was more speeches (really there were) and there was drinking and laughing and fun times!
I don’t think I have been to a wedding like this where such lengths were taken to make it everything she had hoped for. No expense was spared and you can see months and months of planning and hard work went into putting it together!
