I don’t think I have mentioned this but Cameron has been on Oratane for his skin for the last 6 months. I was pretty anti him being on it but there was a stage his skin was really bad. It is looking so much better now but he has some pretty horrible scars we need to now try and minimise as best we can. Someone suggested laser treatment to me a few days ago but apparently it is not as easy and walking in to a salon and just having the treatment done.
Choosing the wrong treatment can actually be worse than not having any treatment.
Laser Procedure Types Offered in Skincare Clinics
Lasers are not capable of treating severe skin sagging. Such issues require surgery. However, lasers can treat a variety of mild to moderate skin problems with the same type of almost surgical-like precision. Lasers use heat, light, and pinpoint accuracy to target skin problems in various ways. Skin issues treatable with lasers include discolored patches and blemishes, as well as mild to moderate wrinkles. Lasers can also be used to trigger healing processes within your body, such as increased production of collagen. The resulting increase can make your skin cells stronger.
When choosing a laser treatment you must tailor your choice to the type of problem you wish to treat. For example, non-ablative lasers are often used for general revitalization techniques. Other aesthetic skin treatment lasers, known as ablative lasers, are most often used for more intense skin treatments, such as laser peels. However, non-ablative laser treatments carry extra risks because they leave the surface of the skin in the treatment area temporarily more vulnerable than usual to infections. Therefore, if you choose to have such a treatment, it is imperative that you carefully follow aftercare instructions given by your clinician.
A third type of laser treatment you may try is called fractional photothermolysis (FP) and is also known as Fraxel laser treatment. FP treatments are generalized revitalization treatments similar to non-ablative laser procedures except for the fact that they impact all skin layers and essentially create small holes which go straight through multiple layers of skin. When the body repairs those tiny holes it also repairs preexisting damage in the process.
Non-Laser Surface Clinical Skincare Procedures
Many non-laser clinical procedures for skincare also exist. Several of them focus primarily on the skin’s surface, where damage is most obvious. If you have an interest in surface treatment one option to try is microdermabrasion. The microdermabrasion process involves a hand-held tool used to scrape or sand blemishes off of the surface of the skin. An alternative to microdermabrasion is a chemical peel, which always impacts the outer layer of the skin in similar ways to microdermabrasion or a laser peel. However, chemical peels differ in that the particular mix of chemicals used can change the intensity of a peel and the number of skin layers it affects.
Clinical Skincare Procedures Which Impact Deeper Skin Layers
In addition to non-laser surface skin treatments there are also many non-laser skin treatments which impact deeper skin layers to consider. For example, ultrasound or radio frequency treatments can be used to stimulate cells and cause invisible changes for the better in even the deepest skin layers.\
Exploring the Option of Surgery as a Skincare Treatment
You can also explore the option of surgery to treat your skin problems. However, the chances are good that, unless your skin problems are severe, you will discover that you have many treatment possibilities besides invasive surgery. Although effective, surgery is also time-consuming, risky, and expensive. Therefore, you should rule out all other skincare treatments before booking a surgical appointment to deal with your skin problems.
