Emma was pretty clear from last that she wanted a Barbie party for her birthday. I have never done a Barbie party before, Kiara’s themed have ranged from monsters to zoo animals, very little pink. It was a fun theme to do and it was the first party we have hosted at home in ages. I had forgotten how exhausting hosting a party at home can be though (and what your house looks like afterwards.) but it was such a great day.
My initial idea was a sweet table with pink and white sweets. (I KNOW, all that sugar but I wanted the colours). But do you know how many sweets you need to make a proper sweet table? A LOT. LIKE A LOT LOT, so that part was smaller than I had hoped. Also there aren’t that many pink and white sweets out there.
The cake stole the show though, isn’t it so flippin gorgeous. I outsourced it to the amazing Therese from Motion Bakery and seeing Emma’s face when David walked in with it was worth it all. She absolutely loved it, she loved the fact that the skirt was different colours.
I made these little chocolates from a Valentines post on Pinterest and I was so chuffed how they came out, it was one of the few Pinterest crafts/recipes that actually are as easy as it says. The cookies also came out really nicely, they were also pretty quick and easy to make, dip into icing and then into sprinkles and you are done!
I really wanted to add some lip gloss to the party pack but I could not find the one that I wanted and wasn’t prepared to pay R20 for one. So I ended up going with these cute shaped sunglasses, some clips and hair stuff and some bubble bath.
The bunting I used was from our wedding. My mom made kilometres of it and I have used it so often over the past 4 years, this is actually the last of the “new” one though. I loved bunting it can make anything look so gorgeous.
We don’t have the biggest garden but I kept the number of kids to under 10 and it worked so well. The 2 boys ran around shooting one another and the girls bounced between the pool, the sandpit and the grass. There was more than enough space for them to still move around and have loads of fun.
It was one of the best parties we have hosted and I realised how much I miss having people in our home.
What parties do your kids want this year?
