This is the first post in a four part series this month where some of my fellow mom bloggers share some of their kids favourites. First up is one of my personal favourite bloggers, if you aren’t following her, you really should. (Also doesn’t she have the most gorgeous family.)
Hello! I am Belinda Mountain. I am mom to Rachel and Ben, wife to Gareth, the co-owner of a content agency called Black Mountain and the runner of my own little parenting and women’s lifestyle blog called Making Mountains. You can find me on Twitter and Instagram and on Facebook.
What is your go to recipe? The one you know your kids will eat EVERY time? (if you have blogged about it, send me the recipe link). If it is just vienna’s and oven chips, that’s also ok
Eish, I have tried many complicated dishes which my kids have turned their noses up at – complete with hidden vegetables and this healthy ingredient and what-not. I wouldn’t say I have given up but I have changed my attitude and I now I keep it hassle free for myself! Their current favourite dish is spaghetti with a jar of Melissa’s sun-dried tomato pasta sauce and their own sprinkling of cheese. I also make them a little salad each (so I feel better about myself), even though only the oldest child actually eats it!
Where do you buy most of your kids clothes? (Those with boys and girls – is it the same place?) Why is that your favourite place to buy them?
I am a big believer in hand-me-downs and don’t spend much on my kids’ clothes as they go through them at a rate of knots (although we did start having kids first amongst our friends, so this hand-me-down policy is not working very well for us)! I do love Cotton On for Rachel as the prints are just lovely, although your child can look like a clone if you are not careful haha (as everyone has the same idea). I love Earthchild for Ben as they make lovely simple t-shirts and soft shorts with a drawstring, and the plain colours are more my vibe. Ackermans also makes great affordable things!
What is your favourite family restaurant? If you have a pic of your child at said restaurant that would be super awesome.
We frequent the Spur quite often as my husband waitered there as a student and is quite loyal! We also want to John Dory’s recently at Canal Walk, which has a great play area for the kids and they had a ball (plus I could eat sushi!).
What is/was your favourite baby brand for stuff like bottles, dummies etc.
No longer in that phase although we were loyal NUK dummy users once upon a time!
If you had to tell a new mom to buy ONE toy for her child what would it be?
That playmat thingie with a toy arch above it – BEST! My kids spent hours under that thing, although it does obviously have an age limit, because as soon as they start crawling they are out of there
If your kids are of a TV watching age or if you allow TV time – what is there current favourite
We cancelled DSTV a while ago but my son is totally obsessed with the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the new one with Johnny Depp) and would watch it every day if he could!
What is your child’s favourite book?
My son Ben is such a fan of Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems. It’s a new take on the classic tale and for some reason he finds it completely hilarious. I quite like it too.
Be on the look out next week for Zoe’s favourites.
