Friday Night at Cranks

We were supposed to have the first Friday evening Bloggirl dinner on Friday night but the event somehow got taken over by twitter people and it ended up a group of cool people!

I was not sure if I wanted to go cos it was in Joburg and I really dont like driving that far on my own. I was going to go with Angel and Glugster but I still was a little nervous about the drive but then Andre saved the day and fetched me and dropped me off!

It was my second bloggirl and twitter meet so knew most of the people there but did meet a few very awesome people!

It was a really really fun evening! There were conversations about dating a single mom (there shall be a seperate blog post on this cos I got a guys view on this), raising kids, divorce, first dates and the obligatory “so what do you do” conversations. There were cocktails and food and wine and lots of laughing.

What fascinates me about this group of people is the pure diversity. There were people of all ages, some married, some divorced, some single, some in committed relationships all working in various fields and various levels with various interests.

The only real thing that connected us was twitter or our blogs and yet there was not one person there who I did not have a really awesome conversation with or think “mm not sure about them”

My star sign prediction for 2009 in the Cosmo or Fair Lady said that this year I will be a social butterfly and it seems it may be right. The last 2 months I have met more people than I think I have met in the last year!

Jeanette has some pics up if you want to check out how totally hot we all are.I would just like to add that Tom is in fact old enough to drink (I also had my doubts for a moment) and isnt Bergen just the cutest thing you have ever seen – I think I have my first SA blog/twitter crush!

  1. That sounds like a great time! I think it’s great you are networking and getting to know people in your area.

You never know what it might lead to!

  2. It was great seeing you again Laura, and I fully agree with you even though it was a very diverse group of people I think everyone had a good time.

  3. i still can’t get over how blogging has broadened my horizons and how much fun i have had since i started!
and it was super cool to see you again!

  4. It was a fascinating and fun evening. I agree about the diversity. It was so nice, for a change, going out with a bunch of net people who don’t just talk about kids 🙂 LOL!

  5. Sounds fun! I can’t imagine partying with the folks I twitter with. Of course, when your twitter follow Lance Armstrong, or a single mom blogger in South Africa (I’m in California), it makes it tough!
