I was at a lunch on Friday with such an incredible group of bloggers at the Wellness Warehouse. I hadn’t met a few of the bloggers who were there but we chatted about a whole range of things, including motherhood. It was during this discussion that I realised I often talk quite negatively about being a mother. I try to add some humour to it, so it’s often not seen as negative but funny. I don’t even see it as moaning or highlighting the crazy only because we do try to find the funny side of things a lot.
But when Neeta said “So is there anything good about being a mother.” I stopped in my tracks and re-looked at what I was saying.
When my friends and I swap whatsapp image of our kids crying – its funny to us. When I call my kids savages, my friends with kids (who are also savages) get it. If I say I want to just have 5 minutes of time when no one needs my, my fellow exhausted moms get it.
Women who want to be moms or are pregnant for the first time, don’t get it though. It skews their few of what it is like being a mom and I think leaves the impression I don’t enjoy motherhood when I actually do.
So while I do try to deal with things by seeing the funny side, I am going to try share more about the awesome side of being a mom.
To kick it off, here are a few reasons why I absolutely love being a mom.
There is always laughter. This weekend it was just Cameron, Kiara and I. We have had the best time. We walked around Pylones while we were waiting for a blog activation I had to attend. I love Pylones, they have some quirky (but not really necessary) goodies, we laughed and laughed at some of the items in the store. We then had lunch at Moyo, more laughing, getting lost and just having fun. The day ended off with silly British sitcoms, laughing until we couldn’t breathe. It has been such a fun weekend. I am loving spending time with the older two.
Cuddles, lots and lots of cuddles. Every morning Jack is the first one to wake up. He walks into my room and jumps into bed with me. It is such a special time for us. He often just lies next to me, doesn’t say anything, he is just happy to be there. Even though I wish Emma would fall asleep easier, part of her routine once she is in bed involves telling me “I need to see your face”. I have to lie facing her, she strokes my face, giggles and shortly after will fall asleep.
You get to be silly. When Emma child asks me to put on her Frozen beanie, I put it on. When Jack wants to chase me, I run and act scared. When they hide away from us (in clear sight) we act surprised.
Probably my best part of being a mother is being a part of something bigger than myself. Watching my kids grow up has been such an incredibly adventure. Knowing that I am shaping the lives of four people can be such an overwhelming feeling but at the same time it is such a wonderful experience to be a part of. Seeing little bits of myself, and David in the kids is frustrating at times but also so special.
While I like a time out now and then, there is nothing that makes me happier than having all my chickens in my next, making noise, laughing, asking me for things repeatedly and creating memories around me. My children are 4 of the things I am most proud of. I want to spend time with them, I love that I get to call them all mine and that they call me mom.
Moms, tell me why you love being a mother!

Love it!
This Laura, exactly THIS!
Wonderful to stop and note the good things.
So true! Today we snuggled on the couch and read books and Ben put his little hands on either side of my face and gave me a big kiss. My heart! There are so many great things about being a mom and I also need to write about them more.
