I know these are normally done on a Thursday but I have an extra one and next month starts a new series so I am posting Mandy and Charly’s favourite things today 🙂 Also I am a little behind on blog writing (again) and the kids and I are filming a TV ad today and tomorrow (I am DYING to tell you all about it.)
So without further ado, here are Mandy and Charly’s favourite things.
I am a mommy of one ridiculously cute 3-year-old named Charlotte (Charly) Rose (who shares a birthday with Emma). The mister and I have been together for just short of 11 years, married for just short of 4 (we were married on our 7 year anniversary). He is a software developing Star Trek and Star Wars geek who can be found cooking amazing meals for our family while listening to podcasts or teaching our daughter to cook.
I am a serial-entrepreneur. I am a professional writer for brands, a parenting blogger at Pregnant in Cape Town & Ever After, an online pregnancy and parenting magazine owner and editor of Tums 2 Tots Online (which wouldn’t still be running without Laura!!). I co-own a women’s only Facebook group called South African Sisterhood that supports and engages with almost 13,000 women.
I am a car seat awareness expert activist who created the #CarseatFullstop initiative and hopes to launch the #CarseatFullstop for Kids initiative into local nursery schools in 2017. I am available as a speaker on matters of car seat safety in Cape Town.
I am a brand consultant that helps to guide brands and bloggers on how best to build their brand and position themselves competitively in their market. I am a specialist consultant that works with PR companies, brands and bloggers to create and manage campaigns. I offer guidance on the best pairings between specific bloggers and brands and advise on how best to create long term mutually-beneficial relationships within the blogging community.
- What is your go to recipe? The one you know your kids will eat EVERY time?
However, it is far more likely that we buy the ready meals. She will always eat the Woolworths Spaghetti or Macaroni & Cheese. We have just been introduced to the new Oh My Goodness range from Checkers and she loved their mac and cheesy (Cauliflower!!!) and their spagbol. The range was created by one of my favourite chefs, Gordon Ramsay, with his daughter (see the synergy?) and is packed full of healthy ingredients, so I suspect they will be our go-to moving forward.
- Where do you buy most of your kids clothes? Why is that your favourite place to buy them?
H&M or Woolworths. I adore the quality of both and the prices are generally fair for the quality.
Most of Charly’s onesies and PJs are from Woolies. They are super convenient, because there is a store at pretty much every mall. Their baby stuff is EVERYTHING! I am not sure Charly wore any baby clothing that wasn’t from Woolies.
H&M is incredible! It has such a huge variety of adorable kids clothing; you can find fully “Disneyed” outfits alongside cute animal-prints or plain colourful tees or tights. They also had amazing shoes last year when I got her winter items. The only downside of H&M is that I have to travel to the Waterfront to shop there.
- What is your favourite family restaurant?
Spur!! Although I enjoy the occasional specialised burger restaurant, there really is nothing as good as the Spur’s Hunger Buster cheese burger! I am drooling just thinking about it. Best burger EVER! Charly always loved their viennas and smilies when she was smaller, but is now experimenting with different things; she loves the steak and chicken strips now too. I also LOVE that most of the Spur’s around our area have upgraded their play areas. We grab the closest table to keep an eye on the door and we can have proper conversations or stare at each other in exhausted parental silence, eat delicious happy food while Charly goes nuts for an hour or two. What’s not to love?!
- What is/was your favourite baby brand for stuff like bottles, dummies etc.
Charly wouldn’t take a bottle ever :-/ She refused a dummy until she was just short of 2 years old; she had really bad reflux so dummies made her gag. When I tried to wean her the first time, I tried dummies again. The only ones she likes and uses are the Avent ones. They are much smaller and flatter than the others we tried.
- If you had to tell a new mom to buy ONE toy for her child what would it be?
The Alilo Honey Bunny.
- If your kids are of a TV watching age or if you allow TV time – what is there current favourite movie/show?
Blaze and the Monster Machines, Peppa Pig and Curious George.
- What is your child’s favourite book?
What the Ladybird Heard, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Lydia Monks. We (Charly and I) are huge Julia Donaldson fans and one of my amazing friends bought Charly a second JD collection for her birthday. We have about 20 different stories and at any given time, she has a particular favourite. She finds the rhyming stories easy to remember, so she tends to “read” them to us. This has also meant that she is beginning to recognise certain words on sight, which is just mind-blowing and almost as exciting for us as it is for her.
