Nelson Mandela celebrates his 90th birthday today and its kind of a big deal in South Africa.
Our radio stations have dedicated the day to him, receiving messages and well wishes all day!
Gareth Cliff, one of our DJs, refered to him this morning as the greatest living leader in the world today. Now while Gareth may be slightly biased I dont think he is far off – the good Mandela has done and continues today really is inspiring!
So I will join the millions in wishing Madiba a happy happy birthday!
What is this you may be thinking? Bum Radar is the ability to detect when ones bum hits a surface! My kids possess it – in fact that are MASTERS in it!
They have the ability to detect when MY bum hits ANY surface ANYWHERE in the house – be it the toilet, the bed, my lounge chair, my study chair or even if I dare lean against something to rest my wary legs! The second contact is made they YELL for me like its the end of the world as we know it!
Its invariable never something important – usually requesting me to change the channel (which they can do but will require some effort), make them coffee (which they can do but will require some effort), pick up the toy that is JUST out of their reach (this one is my personal favourite) or generally anything that they feel is beneath them and suitable for their slave to do!
I even tried sitting outside the other day – didnt work! Their radar extends through walls it appears and the minute contact was made they were calling me!
As much as I have tried there is NO escaping bum radar! NONE!
I am battling a bit to actually get halfway decent pics of anything with black in! So I was walking around last night trying to find things – with my mom as director “what about this” “Or this – TAKE this”.
Anyway I took this light while it was still light but then tried again when it was dark and prefered these ones!
There are more pics to check out on Annas blog!
These are a few of the rather ornate gates we have in our neighbourhood!!
Anna has more entries on her blog for you to check out
Kiara and Cameron went tree climbing yesterday! Its their new favourite thing to do cos they can see the neighbours and then pass running commentary on what they see!
Yesterday was no exception. One of our neighbours was working on his aerial. They spot him and announce he looks like Jon (my brother) and the start rambling on about monkeys and bad people – next minute they YELL in his direction “YOU LOOK LIKE A BADDY” and then launch into a debate about it – Kiara reckons he is a THIEF but Cameron is happy with just baddy!
Fortunately he seemed unphased by the banter so I left them alone!
I did get some pics though!
I am so super proud of both myself and more especially my daughter!
She was 4 in April but still firmly attached to the bottle! We kept saying “when she is ready” but clearly she wasnt going to be ready anytime soon and I was spending my evenings filling the bottle and mornings changing wet linen!
We have tried a few times to ditch it but have always ended up head first in the bin trying to fish it out! EXCEPT for last night!
She asked for it late in the afternoon and we explained Johanna had thrown it away! Shame I used Johanna purely cos she wasnt here and so Kiara could get mad with her! She didnt beleive me so searched the cupboards and when she came up empty handed I managed to get her to have her tea in a mug just like mine! We took pics and made a huge hoo haaa about it.
Bed time rolled around and I braced myself for the worst but she proved me wrong and fell asleep pretty painlessly! Midnight she woke up and sobbed her little heart out – that real heartbroken sob and I was about to crack! But I sat with her and we just sat and eventually moved to my bed and an hour of rolling around, talking and moaning (NO CRYING THOUGH) she fell asleep!
So we did it! Well actually SHE did it! Lets hope tonight is just as “easy”
Ok I have never done one of these before but decided to join in cos I really liked this idea!!!
I am a bit behind but anyway here is my first contribution!
