Yes we are getting another baby!

I mentioned in a previous post that we are a Place of Safety, which means we will, very soon, be welcoming a new little baby into our family. This decision has been met with mixed responses and there have been a lot of questions around exactly what it is. So, I am going to answer some of the questions and explain it a little more.

Why we decided to do it?

Simply because we can. We have a happy home with lots of love to give. If we can include a little person who needs a little extra love into that, then I want to be a part of that.

What about our kids?

What about them? This was my idea but before I committed to anything I spoke to the older two kids about it. We discussed it for a while before I made the next move. Kiara was excited from the start. She connected with a friend’s little Place of Safety baby, so she knows the joy these babies can bring. Cameron was a little more apprehensive but not against the idea. In all honesty Cameron feels my parenting skills are left wanting, so deciding to bring another child into the mix, doesn’t seem like the smartest move to him but the more we discuss it, the more on board he is.

Is David on board?

Of course, he is!!! Again, I would not have done this had I not had the support of everyone. This decision affects everyone of us, I would never had gone ahead if anyone in our immediate family had been against it. He is as nervous as I am about it but we have done this before so I think we will be ok.

How long will the baby be with us?

No idea. The baby is not placed with us permanently, we are the safe place they fall before they go into permanent foster care. So, they are with us as long as it takes to find them a suitable foster care.

Which leads to the next question – how are you going to give them “back”.

Well I am not giving them back. Once the baby leaves us they do not go back into the system, they go to an approved foster care family. They go somewhere better than where they were. We know our role in this process, it is not a permanent one. That said, it is not going to easy to let go of the baby and we will cross that bridge when we get there.

So many people have said how special we are to do this. I don’t think we are. I think we are just a family who have a space to love a little more. I believe things happen for a reason and there was a reason my paths crossed with the people they have which has led me to this new adventure.

I believe we all have to try to make our little patch of garden a little brighter. If we all do that maybe the world will start being a little brighter and we would start being kinder to one another.
