Magic Moments

I was trying to think of a magic moment to write about during my yoga class this morning and was really battling to come up with one moment over the past week.

We had such an amazing weekend that it sort of clouded everything that happened during the week and there wasn’t only one day or one event that was lovely – it was all just so great.

So what made it so magical? I am not sure really. I think a combination of things. We seem to be in a really great place as a family. The kids are all doing well, David and I are content. It’s a happy time for us.

We didn’t really do much that should be noteworthy which just goes to show that you don’t need money or to venture far to have a good time. On Saturday I popped out to do some chores while David and the kids did some garden DIY. It was a spur of the moment thing and I don’t have any before photos because we spoke about doing it, I went to bath and David had done it 🙂 I am so glad that he did though. The area has been bugging us since we moved in but we haven’t been able to figure out what to do until Saturday and it cost us nothing. We used pavers from the back garden and paved a small area just outside the kitchen that previously had sleepers and ugly stones. It looks SO much better!

Then 3 of David’s friends came round and despite being the only girl and 2 out of the 3 of them being single we all had a really great time. We laughed, ate (cold meats and bread – it was sooo yummy), and the kids swam and then it was movies of the couch for the 5 of us!

Sunday got even better – I managed to bake some muffins, get some scrapbooking done and made a proper Sunday lunch before we headed to Joburg for a baby shower! A day where I can bake AND do scrapbooking is a win day for me so before lunch I was already in my happy place!

There were so many little magical moments during the weekend that made it one of the best we have had in ages. It was one of those moments where you feel so totally blessed and realise how much love you do have!

What was your magical moment this weekend?

  1. My cousin and her grown daughter came to visit on sunday. I’m only getting to know her now, as i lived away from home for a very long time. We had a great time chatting and laughing, and digging small palm trees for them from my garden.
It was a wonderful respite from a weekend from the kind of rough weekends you want to hide through until Monday. It started with a nightmare Friday night. A child I loved – not anyone I recognised from people in my life – was going to be killed and there was nothing I could do to save him. The killers gave me the choice to walk away or to watch while they killed him. I woke up crying and somehow I ended up cranky for the whole day. On Sunday the municipality had a water problem and we didn’t have any water stored for such emergencies (note to self: always make sure that the secondary tank is full). I had to use ice from our fridge to cook our the rice for our lunch . The municipal water didn’t come back until after 5pm, and by then, I was feeling grubby (no shower until then). It wasnice visiting with my cousins instead of dwelling on the inconvenience of not having a tap water.

  2. You do sound blissfully happy. I love it – at least SOMEONE is 🙂

    Kidding!!!

I did have a great weekend. I had a very unexpected and long brunch with a friend and D and kids while food was there, D then disappeared in the mall and we chatted hard (properly!) while the kids played. DIVINE.

Sunday – church where I heard from God just a bit – so good. Then just pottering around the house, printing photos and such 🙂 Eileen (photo printer) has now been boxed to go back and I’m a bit sad about that – I will miss her dearly!

OH and I just unfriended my boss on FB. Yes, I did.

  3. I LOVE alone time. In fact, I’m trying to book a weekend away for myself. I just want silence. And peace. My magical weekend this past weekend was on Sunday. It was raining. EVERYONE was in my bed and at one point I looked at them and thought “Oh gosh. I actually have my own family”.
