Tell me all about your Christmas Traditions!

Christmas is apparently 35 days away. So pretty much a month. As usual I haven’t done anything. Well that isn’t exactly true, we did put the tree up on the weekend and the kids made some cards to send to my mom and aunts. Fortunately for my kids my brother and mother are more organised and have sent their gifts up already.

To get us all in the festive spirit I found these Christmas questions and thought it would be fun to get everyone to answer. You can leave your answers in the comments if you want or if you blog on your blog.

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?

Rise of the Guardians without a doubt. I can watch that movie over and over. It is such a beautiful movie.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Christmas morning 🙂 I know everyone has a different tradition but Christmas Eve seems like cheating to me. I mean when did Father Christmas drop them off? While everyone was in the bath?

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

My mom always made Christmas special for us. There was always loads of food, we always got lots of gifts and there was a lot of time spent with my cousins. We used to get these stories on tapes that came with books. I think they were called StoryTeller. I can still see them all fanned out on the floor under the tree. If the lights of tree were on then we knew Father Christmas had been, this is probably the only tradition I still do with my kids.

4. Favourite festive food?

Tough one. It’s a toss up between my moms baked goods and the turkey stuffing.

5. Favourite Christmas gift?

I can’t think of one specific gift that really stands out. How very boring right!

6. Favourite Christmas scent?

mmm I don’t think I have one. I suppose if I had to pick something it would be the smell of baking.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Yes, that is when we have our feast. My mom spends all day cooking and we spend all afternoon/evening eating. It is the BEST!

8. What tops your tree?

This year it is a star. It is a rather old, sad look star but Jack was SO excited when he saw it and was so proud to put it on the top of the tree.

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

I honestly have no idea. I do keep asking David for pyjamas though and never seem to get them. I sent photos, the shop names but he seems to have a block on buying them.

10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Family and seeing how excited the kids get. We do the Portable North Pole videos and the kids absolutely LOVE watching them. Christmas is about magic!

This is so fun! I love learning about what others do for the holidays. My favorite Christmas movie is National lampoons Christmas vacation. One thing that is making Christmas so much fun is seeing how excited my kids get as they start to understand it more!

We don’t have many traditions because I was deployed much of the time around the holidays. We have always opened one gift on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas morning along with what Santa brought. One of my favorite things to do on Christmas Eve is to watch Elf!

We are just starting our own traditions with our little family. Pyjamas from Mrs. clause on Christmas Eve is one I’ve brought to my family from growing up 🙂

I luv the whole thing about Christmas in my house. Traditionally we open gifts on Christmas morning (we also leave the normal shortbread and either a beer or glass of milk for santa) not forgetting to make reindeer food (jungle oats with sliced carrots and glitter) cos the reindeer also has to eat oh and also BIG bowl of water cos they also get thirsty. Don’t know who gets more excited me or the kids I generally have to spill the reindeer food in the garden (cos they r messy eaters) then I wake the kids up buy ringing a school bell (not that they see the bell) the kids assume that is the bell from santa sleigh after he has dropped off the presents

With this year being my daughters first Christmas it’s almost like a blank canvas for us! We are definitely starting the opening one gift in Christmas Eve and have it filled with a movie, popcorn, matching family jammies and whatever other goodies we think of!
