“Come away with me and we’ll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I’ll never stop loving you”
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I’ll never stop loving you”
Who knows this song by Norah Jones? It is such a pretty song, makes you want to go away with her, which I suppose is the point.
The last 18 months have been brutal for David and I. We are in constant survival mode and it is exhausting! The good news though is we can see the light (and no it is not an oncoming train) and things are getting easier and we are able to relax a little bit more.
We aren’t ready to get away just yet but we can start planning something for the nearish future. So I am putting together a little wish list of places I would like to go. The recently rebranded Afristay have made compiling a wish list SO easy.
First of all they have all my favourite places as destinations and secondly it is so easy to use their site to see what is available and the price. I am a lazy internet surfer. If I am searching for something I want to see the price and pictures immediately. I don’t want to have to go looking and email someone and wait.
I have put together a list of places I would like to spend the weekend at. They are all near to Pretoria/Joburg because as much as a island holiday is 1st prize, reality is a close to home trip is more doable right now.
Three Oaks and an Aloe – I have actually stayed here before and it is perfect for a weekend getaway. It is close to Joburg and has everything you need on the premises including a spa/beauty salon that is also open on Sundays. It is situated opposite the cable car so if you want to get out for a bit of an adventure, you can literally walk over the road.
Phumuza Lodge – The bush has my heart, even though we spend the holidays at the coast, my heart remains in the bush. What drew me to this place was the pool! How stunning does it look? I can see myself chilling their for an entire weekend!
Thaba Lenaka looks like a place that I may also never want to leave. The views look amazing and I can see myself sitting on the deck reading a book for days. Some of their rooms can accommodate kids, so if you can’t find a sitter or area looking for a family getaway close to home, this is the one.
Tshukudu is a little more luxurious but a girl can dream right? And look at this bath? I have had this particular lodge on my radar for years and years. Hopefully I will get there sooner rather than later.
And to end my list off is Ivory Tree. Go and check it out and you will see why. Also it has a spa! I don’t really think I need to say anything else?
Which one of these is your favourite?
If you are anything like me you dream of a weekend getaway but something (generally money) always comes up and you never just do it!
Well the awesome people at Afristay want you to JUST DO IT! So they are giving away a R2000 travel voucher that can be used anywhere in South Africa.
How cool are they?
Entry is super easy – complete the Rafflecopter entries but PLEASE not the mandatory steps. Even if you complete most of the steps, if you do not complete the mandatory ones I am unable to count your entry!

I would love to go away with my husband we weren’t able to take a honeymoon and we are married 5 years, money is always an issue so this would be amazing!
Phumuza lodge looks amazing.. that pool looks so inviting and peaceful.. when you have kids, going away seems like a distant memory, even if I try and save up for a little getaway, something always comes along that needs the money more.. I.e broken school bag and lost school clothing.. or the car breaks down, or the medical aid funds are up and the kids need antibiotics.. it’s always something.. but my kids are my most treasured possessions.. and would have to come with on a break away.. even though they drive me nuts, I hate being away from them 🙂
Thaba Lenaka Guest Farm looks amazing! Perfect for a family holiday – we NEVER get to go away as a family (or alone 😉 ) This would be awesome!
Anywhere along the Garden Route or CT. My family and I are going away in November for a weekend…have not taken a trip since 2013, so would be an amazing win! So anything ‘family’ friendly would be great. There are a few options!
